We've Been Where You Are
Meet Lindsay Fernandez, the heart behind Life After Loss
Hi, I'm Lindsay Fernandez
a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a deep passion for transforming how we understand and navigate grief. My journey into this field is deeply personal - I grew up with a mom who faced both physical and mental health challenges, and in 2011, I unexpectedly lost her. This experience became the heart of my memoir, "A Lifetime with Death," where I share my story of loss and healing.
For the past 9 years, I've had the privilege of providing one-on-one and group counseling to people dealing with all kinds of losses - both death-related and non-death-related. My approach is all about helping you:
☑️ Understand your grief and how it's affecting different parts of your life
☑️ Explore and process your loss and the emotions that come with it
☑️ Look at your relationships and family history
☑️ Consider how your culture and beliefs influence your grief
☑️ Find and build a reliable support system
☑️ Develop coping strategies that work for you
☑️ Find ways to re-engage with your daily life
☑️ Learn about grief to help you understand and manage overwhelming emotions and experiences
I'm a firm believer that when we learn to tune into our grief, understand our needs, and find ways to cope with difficult experiences and emotions, we can let go of the shame, judgment, and expectations that often come with grief. With the right tools, knowledge, and support, it's possible to find a meaningful life after loss. Remember, grieving for a lifetime doesn't mean we have to suffer for a lifetime.
As a Certified Grief Educator and Certified Grief Movement Guide, I'm committed to providing you with the most up-to-date, compassionate care. Whether you're dealing with a recent loss, a major life transition, or ongoing grief, I'm here to support you on your journey towards healing and growth.
Why We Do What We Do
At Life After Loss, we're on a mission to change the conversation about grief. Here's what we believe:
Grief is complicated, and that's okay: We know grief isn't simple. It has many layers and looks different for everyone. We don't try to fit your experience into a one-size-fits-all box.
Your grief is unique: We believe there's no "normal" way to grieve. The idea that grief should follow a specific pattern is outdated and doesn't work for everyone.
Your culture and background matter: We understand that grief is influenced by your culture, beliefs, and personal experiences. We're here to support you in a way that respects your individual perspective.
It's time to end the stigma: Society often has ideas about how grief "should" look. We're working to change that. Your grief journey is your own, and it's valid.
We need more understanding: There's not enough information out there about how individuals actually experience grief. We're here to change that, providing resources that focus on real experiences.
You deserve a safe space: We're committed to giving you a judgment-free zone where you can grieve in whatever way feels natural to you. No unrealistic standards, no pressure.
Remember: There's no right or wrong way to grieve. There's only your way.
We started Life After Loss in October 2019 because we believe these conversations about death and grief, as uncomfortable as they might be, need to happen. We're here to support you, educate others, and create a world where all grief experiences are understood and respected.
