Connection after Loss

Our loved ones were people that mattered to us and we can continue to honor them past the physical dimensions. In these videos, I explore some of the ways in which we can maintain our connections with our loved ones beyond the physical realm.

 

Connection and the grief experience

In this video, I explore the history of Freud and his perception of what constituted a “normal” grief experience. Additional research has demonstrated the benefits of seeking to maintain a connection with our loved ones after they pass away. Our loved ones will always be people that mattered and that we love no matter what.

 

Connection after loss: ways to cope with grief

In this video, I discuss some of the ways in which certain cultures, specifically African-Americans, view death and remain connected with their deceased loved ones. Connection after loss, tells us that no, we don’t have to forget about our loved ones and yes, we can continue to cherish and celebrate their history, their essence, and what they represented for us.

 

The connection between grief and love

We often feel grief over the loss of someone because we shared in a deep love and connection with the person, who is no longer here. However, the way you express your grief isn’t necessarily representative of that love and connection. Judging someone by their public display of grief, whether we think it is too much or not enough, is simply cruel and insensitive.
